Why We Use Goat Milk in Our Soap

One of the biggest dreams I had when we started our homestead was owning goats.

Long before Laughing Quail Farm officially existed, I was already making homemade soap while my kids were little. I loved creating useful things by hand, and I always hoped that one day I’d be able to make soap using fresh milk from our own goats.

After years of military moves with my husband’s Air Force career, we finally had the chance to settle down in High Rolls, New Mexico and slowly build the homestead we had always talked about.

That dream really started to feel real when we brought home two little white Nigerian Dwarf sisters: Cecelia and Piper.

Now, every batch of goat milk soap we make starts with milk from goats we know and care for every day.

There’s something special about that to us.

We love goat milk soap because it feels simple, gentle, and practical. Goat milk has been used in soapmaking for generations, and once we started using it ourselves, we understood why people love it so much.

For us, it’s become an everyday staple.

Goat milk soap has a creamy, rich lather that feels moisturizing without being heavy, and we’ve found it works well for everyday skin. We especially like that it cleans without leaving skin feeling stripped or overly dry afterward.

One of our favorite parts of making soap this way is knowing exactly where the milk comes from. It’s not coming from a factory or shipped in from somewhere else — it starts here on our farm with Cecelia and Piper.

What began as a simple dream of owning goats has slowly turned into something much bigger than we expected. Now our small homestead is full of animals, projects, handmade goods, and a community we’ve come to love through the Otero County Farmers Market in Alamogordo.

And every bar of soap we make still reminds us why we started in the first place.
